Medical students and doctors nationwide are invited and expected to participate in this conference. This is a team event – teams of 3 members only.

Case presentations are invited from the Undergraduate Students for presentation in the following subjects:
  • Ophthalmology
  • Otorhinolaryngology
  • General Surgery
  • General Medicine
  • Paediatrics

Eligibility Criteria:
  • A group of 3 students from the same academic session from a particular medical college will constitute a single team.
  • Students appearing for that particular subject in the present academic session only will be allowed to present the case. Those who have passed their university examinations or have been detained/failed in that particular subject will not be allowed to present a case.
  • Only Eighth /Ninth Semester (Final Year part-2) students will be allowed to present cases from General Medicine, General Surgery and Paediatrics.
  • Only Sixth/Seventh Semester (Final Year part-1) students will be allowed to present cases from Ophthalmology and Otorhinolaryngology.
  • One team can apply for only one case presentation, in any one subject.

Submission Process:
The submission should be done by ONE team member only. Quote the Unique Registration ID (URID)/Invoice Number of each teammate in the email during submission. All individual team members need to be registered for SAMSACON’19

The presentation and the Certificate of Approval must be mailed to the selection committee. Please read the requirements given below, before submitting.

Prepare the submission as a MS PowerPoint document in the template prescribed below.

Submission Format:
  • MS PowerPoint (max 10 slides** of texts or photographs of findings in the case can be included, photographs should maintain anonymity of the patient) inclusive of but not limited to:
  • Presenting complaints, History, Examination findings, Differential diagnoses, Investigations (brief), Summary.
  • All entries should quote the name, address, contact number (with email ID) and Unique Delegate ID (UDID) of all presenters along with the name and designation of the faculty who had guided the student in the preparation of case presentation in the email sent to us (not in the PowerPoint).
  • The PowerPoint attached in the email should be named after the case title.
  • Certificate of Approval from the head of the concerned department that the applicants are appearing for the university examination for the first time in the current academic session is essential. It has to be enclosed as an email attachment.
  • The clinical case discussion can be prepared under the guidance of a Faculty Mentor from your department. The name and designation of the faculty mentor should be mentioned, which would be displayed during the conference if the case gets selected for presentation on stage.

Submission Opening Date and Closing Date:
  • Opening Date – 26/12/18
  • Closing Date – 20/2/19
  • Submitted PowerPoint will be evaluated by a panel of reviewers (Subject Experts) and the selected entries per subject will be intimated in the last week of February, 2019. The decision of the selection committee is final. The same will be displayed on the SAMSACON page.

Final Evaluation and Presentation:
  • Examiners will evaluate the shortlisted teams DURING the conference for selection for stage presentation. The subject experts will decide the methods in each subject for final selection. Two teams per subject will be selected to present the case on stage to a panel of examiners on subsequent days. They will be awarded certificates of merit and prizes.
  • More than one entry from the same college on the same subject is permitted to present on stage (subject to change based on entries).
  • The selected presenter will get 30 minutes for on-stage presentation – 10 minutes for presentation + 20 minutes of panelist questions
  • The event shall be conducted in teams of 2 members.
  • One team shall speak for the motion and the other against the motion.
  • Each person shall get 3+1 minutes for their speech.
  • After the speech, other teams will be allowed rebuttal questions. Teams for rebuttal questions will be chosen sequentially.
  • Person for the motion shall speak first.
  • Teams will be disqualified if rules are not followed or in case of any inappropriate behavior.

Group Discussion:
  • Each participant shall be given 30 seconds to speak on the topic given. There will be three rounds.
  • Among the speakers, top 6 will be chosen for the final round of group discussion.
  • Each finalist shall have 30 seconds to speak in each of the 5 rounds during the finals.
  • The finalists are expected to start speaking once the previous finalist is done with his/her speech.
  • Speakers will be judged on the points they put forward, their presentation and poise.
This event is all about your original research which are to be presented in the form of abstracts (e-posters not permitted), on which you will be judged among the various entries and awarded suitably if you break through to the top!

Poster Presentation:
  • Abstracts will be selected for this event and the selected entries will have to prepare a poster (landscape format) of dimensions:4feet×3feet
  • Candidates will be evaluated based upon the outlook of the poster  and their performance in the viva-voce session conducted by the judges.

Oral Presentation:
The oral presentation will be a PowerPoint Presentation (PPT): 8 minutes for presentation + 2 minutes for discussion. It is advisable to get your PowerPoint presentations ready before so that it will be easier for you to make a presentation if your abstract gets selected for oral presentation

Plenary Session:
The best abstracts will be selected for the plenary session.Rules are the same as Oral Presentation but the audience will have all the members of the Conference and will involve a question-answer/ discussion round with the audience as well as with the judges.And of course,the presentation time will be lengthier than the Oral Presentation Session.Other details about this session will be intimated to the selected entries in due course of time.
  • Participation must be in teams of three.
  • There will be an elimination round followed by the final round.

Non Clinical Mediquiz
  • Participation must be in teams of three.
  • Based on Non-Clinical subjects such as ANATOMY,PHYSIOLOGY,BIOCHEMISTRY,PATHOLOGY etc.
  • Only 1 Final year/ 3rd year student will be allowed per team.
  • There will be an elimination round followed by the final round.
