#Flash : Statins May Treat Ulcerative Colitis
Stanford University experts have found that statins can help ease the symptoms of ulcerative colitis. The researchers went through databases involving hundreds of ulcerative colitis patients and compared the outcomes of different therapies given to patients. Results showed that patients taking cholesterol-lowering statins appeared to show the most improvement and were half as likely to require surgery or be admitted to the hospital as those who received standard care. in their ulcerative colitis. However, it is unclear exactly why statins improve their condition, it is thought to have some anti-inflammatory benefits. According to the research, current evidence is significant enough to begin prescribing statins for ulcerative colitis but, it is necessary to confirm the effects more thoroughly before taking it into the clinic.
