About 50 women, including expecting and new mothers, fell ill on Sunday at Kamla Raja Women Hospital, Gwalior, after they were administered ampicillin injections.

The condition of all the women, including five who remain admitted in the ICU, is stable. It seemed that the women developed an allergy to the antibiotic supplied by a government supplier and now the hospital has suspended the administration of the injection as a precaution. An inquiry was being conducted by Sanjay Chandel, Assistant Professor at the Gajra Raja Medical College, and Rajeev Singh of the Child Development Department. The officials have also recorded statements of the family members of the affected women as well as those of the hospital staff responsible for administering the injections. Samples of the injection will also be sent for examination...
