Nearly 2,000 resident doctors of AIIMS will participate in a hunger strike today to protest against the "improper implementation" of the benefits of Seventh Pay Commission. The doctors alleged that revised allowances under the Seventh Pay Commission have been implemented in other medical institutions since 4 months but the AIIMS doctors are yet to avail the benefits. The AIIMS Resident Doctors Association (RDA) had also written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding this issue.

When told by the hospital administration that the Health Ministry had not given its approval to the implementation of revised pay, the doctors approached the ministry, where they were told that the process will take time.

The doctors will be participating in the protests but will continue working in the hospital so that the patients do not suffer...
