A 19 year old approaches a doctor with frequent recurring cough symptoms. Patient states that this happens even with exposure to dust or any other subject have symptoms of cough; which first begins with cold followed by cough. Sputum is whitish yellow in color. Cough is strong and quiet continues for a while till the phlegm comes out . Cold subsides after full-fledged cough is developed. No episode of fever. All other parameters are normal with Heart rate slightly high . The doctor states it could be due to a post nasal drip and prescribes Ambroxol. However, she also presents that she has been suffering from childhood wherein the symptoms of cough lasts for a month or more . She was advised to take Foracort Inhaler(Budesonide and Formeterol) during childhood. Even now, only after she takes Foracort or Salbutamol supplemented with Levocetrizine her cough subsides. X-ray is normal with absence of any bronchospasm. No indications of Pneumonia or Tuberculosis from tests done. What could be possibly the patient’s problem and what can be done for the prevention of such symptoms.
