The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) has acquired 50% of the beds in private medical hospitals across the city for the treatment of Covid-19 patients.

The AMC has also increased the hospital charges by 150% as compared to those fixed by the state government through notification as of April 16, 2020.

The new rate varies from Rs. 4500 to Rs. 11,250 for a bed occupied by the patient, an increase of 150% as against the April 16, 2020 government resolution. However, the rate of unoccupied beds has remained unchanged.

Rajiv Gupta, Additional Chief Secretary (ACS) forest and environment who has been appointed as overall in-charge of activities to control further spread of COVID-19 pandemic in Ahmedabad said that the government resolution was meant for the entire state. "However, considering the megacity of Ahemdabad, it was felt that the rates should be different."

"It has been decided that the private hospitals designated as covid-19 hospital shall provide 50% of the total number of beds in such hospital for patients to be referred by AMC and rest 50 % shall be admitted and treated privately on their own."

No private hospitals in the AMC limit whether designated or not as the covid-19 hospital is permitted to charge above the ceiling rates.
