It's not just pharma giant Abbott that wants to stop selling its premium stents in India, multinational Medtronic has petitioned the government about withdrawing its latest stent from the Indian market. Another MNC has written to National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) for its newest stent to be considered as a “special category'' that could be priced higher than the government-capped price of Rs 30,000 for drug-eluting stents since February 15.

It's not clear when Medtronic wrote to the NPPA, but it released a statement on Saturday that read: “We regularly review our product portfolio as part of normal business operations.Based on this review, we have submitted an application for withdrawal of Resolute Onyx under the provisions of Drug Price Control Order.“
