Apollo Hospitals hives off cancer care with new proton thera
Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd, India’s largest healthcare provider, on Wednesday said it has carved cancer management into an independent specialty called Apollo Cancer Institutes as it plans to bring synergies across the oncology departments of its network hospitals and invest in precision and personalised therapies in cancer treatment.

In the first phase, cancer institutes were established at Chennai, Hyderabad, New Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Bilaspur, Bengaluru and Madurai. In the coming months, Apollo plans to add two more such institutes in Bhubaneswar and Navi Mumbai, where Apollo is setting up a new hospital.

“All of (cancer institutes) them work on a common platform using standardized protocols ensuring uniform standards of care for every patient walking into the Apollo ecosystem,” the company said.

Apollo said it is setting up first ever proton beam therapy centre in Chennai at an estimated investment of Rs.650 crore.
