After the announcement by the United Kingdom on Dec 2nd, The island kingdom of Bahrain has become the second nation in the world to grant an emergency-use authorization for the coronavirus vaccine made by Pfizer and BioNTech on Dec 4th.

The approval of the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine will add a further important layer to the kingdom's national Covid-19 response, said Mariam al-Jalahma, CEO of the National Health Regulatory Authority.

Manama did not specify when it would begin the rollout of the vaccine by US pharmaceuticals giant Pfizer/BioNTech. Bahrain did not say how may vaccines it has purchased. In November, the small Gulf kingdom of Bahrain approved the use of China's Sinopharm vaccine on frontline healthcare workers.
