COVID-19 Current Scenario, Global to Local, As On 23rd August
In COVID-19, India recorded yet another high with 70068 new cases, topped globally with comfortable margin of 25K+ over USA & Brazil and marching ahead to 100K daily, possibly in next two weeks.India is now no.2 in daily deaths, overtaken Brazil.
Case fatality rate (Death rate) is 1.8%.
In total cases India is still at no.3, but gap may be breached soon crossing Brazil, to be no.2.
-- Maharashtra continues undisputed top, with 14492 cases on 22 Aug.,a new record!
-- In new cases per million population AP continues to top followed by Karnataka.
-- UP & Bihar testing 130K & 100K, but positivity yield is at 4%-UP & 2%-Bihar as against that of Maharashtra at 20% & AP at 17%.
-- Puducherry is with the highest yield in India at 31% positive among tested samples.
-- In COVID-19, nationally, ranking of 35 states/UT based on cases per million, Goa tops.
-- Unknown till recently, Assam at 11th rank.
-- West Bengal with the entire Northeast is with low numbers in testing but with high yield 9%.
-- UP (4%), Bihar (2.2%), MP and Haryana (3.5%), Gujarat (1.6%)..over all with high testing but with poor yield 2-4%.
Bottomline, it's raging allover, and we are all at risk. Review and change in strategy needed, on what Hon. Prime Minister had stated on 12th August on putting focus on 10 states (original 5- Maharashtra, AP, TN, Karnataka, Delhi and Telangana, UP, Bihar, Gujarat and Haryana)
Indian top cities in per million population cases,Tier 2 and 3 cities continue to dominate over Metros.
Kamrup (Guwahati) tops followed by Chennai at 2 and Pune at 3. Kanchipuram is at 4. Bengaluru reached 5 bypassing Mumbai & Thane. Delhi is at no.15 now.
However, Yanam, Pune & Bengaluru have crossed Kamrup to 1-2-3 positions in new cases per million population.
But epidemiologically most important parameters are total cases & new daily cases per million population that will decide future course of epidemic in India.
