COVID-19 update, From Global to Local, as on 24th August
In COVID-19, India tops globally, once again in new cases & new deaths. With 61749 new cases, India tops globally with comfortable margin of 30K over USA & 39K over Brazil.
Though India is no.1 in daily deaths, it is observed over few weeks that the USA & Brazil death numbers data get fudged at weekends with low deaths recorded, and then gets added next day. So either a 3-day or 7-day average could be a better parameter.
In Indian scenario, yesterday total tests done were 800K, 20% less than on 22 Aug.
-- Maharashtra continues to top, with 10441 cases on 23 August.,4K less than on 22 Aug, but this is as a result of 37% less tests done compared to previous day.
-- In new cases per million, AP continues to top.
-- UP & Bihar have tested 130K & 100K respectively, but positivity yield is at 4%-UP & 2.2%- Bihar against very high rates in many states.
-- Change in strategy for testing numbers is imperative. Many smaller states are testing just 1000 or so, but yield is very high, for example entire northeast had 10% positivity in tested samples with Nagaland at 15%.
-- Hitherto low profile states like Himachal have increased positivity rates now.
-- In Indian cities per million cases,Tier 2-3 cities continue to dominate. Kamrup (Guwahati) tops and Chennai at 2 and Pune at 3.
-- Pudduchery with 420/million tops in new cases per million, followed by Pune and Bengluru. Many smaller cities are agressive, shows spread pan India.
-- Nationally, in gross number of cases, Pune is likely to cross Delhi and top in the country in 10-12 days.
-- Nashik at no.12. Palghar, Raigad and many smaller towns aggressive and reporting high numbers.
-- In UP though the yield is 4% positivity in tested samples, the highest is in Gorakhpur 15%, followed by Kanpur 9.5%, Lucknow 8%.
-- Highest in Country is Pudduchery 34%. Thane, Raigad, Nashik in Maharashtra from 31-29%
