Case of Palatal Swelling
A 32 year old female patient comes with a chief complaint of PAIN and SWELLING in the left side of the palate since a day. Pt. had history of NOCTURNAL PAIN in the same area of the jaw 2 mnths back which subsided in a week. Pt. noticed the swelling a day back and has THROBBING pain.
Clinically, the swelling extends in the left side of the hard palate in the the molar region. A DRAINAGE POINT is seen. the swelling is FLUCTUANT. caries extending enamel and dentin is seen in 26. pain on percussion positive and no mobility.
radiographic examination shows PERIAPICAL RADIOLUCENCY wrt 26.
Pt has history of TOBACCO CHEWING since 10-15 yrs 3-4 times a day.
What can be the possible DIAGNOSIS and TREATMENT options?

First think of odontogenic cause of swelling, a dentoalveolar abscess. Try to save the tooth by RCT. Counsel the patient to quit the habit with follow up every three months.
