From Tuesday, to buy even one paracetamol tablet or a bottle of cough syrup from any pharmacy in the district a doctor's prescription will be a mandatory requirement.

Every pharmacy will have to mention the reference doctor's name next to every bill in its bill book.

This move comes after increasing reports of paracetamol and antibiotic abuse by people who often go for self-medication. Pharmacies found flouting the rule will lose their license.
