Common Weight Loss Operation Safe In Children And Adolescent
A 10-year study revealed that children and adolescents who underwent common weight loss operation to treat severe obesity showed that they safely have long-lasting major weight loss and improvement of their obesity-related medical problems without any affect in growth in height. The study involved 2,500 participants aged 5 to 21 years who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy. The long-term study results showed that patients lost nearly 30 percent of their total weight, on average, and had widespread reversal of type 2 diabetes and key heart disease risk factors, with no procedure-related deaths or major complications. The findings correspond with current scientific evidence recommending early surgical intervention and can cure children's obesity-related diseases which will improve their quality of life.
