In a rare case of complex tumor named 'odontome', Bihar doctors removed more than 80 teeth from a teenage boy in who was suffering from extreme pain. The doctors at IGIMS, Patna removed 82 teeth in an operation that lasted for 3 hours.

Nitish Kumar, 17, suffered from complex odontoma, a tumour of the jaw, for the last five years. The severity of the condition meant the Nitish had to get an operation done to fix his jaw, which had a total of 82 teeth in two huge lumps. That's 50 teeth more than the set that an average adult has.

However, relief didn't come that easy for the 17-year-old who had been unable to get proper treatment for years. Fortunately, he consulted doctors at the Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Bihar and was able to get a date for his operation. Before the surgery, scans revealed his jaw was severely swollen and his face distorted due to the excess teeth. They also showed the huge collection of teeth sitting at the bottom of his mouth.

The agony finally ended for the teenager as all the excess teeth were removed in a three-hour-long surgery. The medical superintendent of Indira Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Dr. Manish Mandal, said Nitish's condition worsened over the years due to lack of treatment. Last year, an Indian doctor extracted a tooth measuring 3.9 cm, that was tipped to set the record for 'world's longest tooth'.
