Decrease in oestrogen level causes a decrease in polymerisation of glycosaminoglycans and degeneration of elastin fibres Risk factors for such adhesive-induced skin injuries include patients on chronic steroid therapy, use of exfoliating agent, prolonged surgeries, prone positioning and extremes of age.
