The pituitary gland acts like a double-edged sword for COVID-19. Hypopituitarism, on the one hand, predisposes people to metabolic disorders like diabetes, obesity, and VFs, all of which are known COVID-19 risk factors. COVID-19, on the other hand, may cause direct or indirect damage to the pituitary glands by entering the brain and causing adverse vascular events, however there is less evidence for this than for hypopituitarism.
