Dr. Hrefna Katrin Gudmundsdottir presented research at the 'virtual' ERSI that showed for the first time a link between lower lung function in newborns born to physically inactive mothers and those born to active moms in a study of 814 babies. Researchers will track the newborns' lung function as they grow to see how it changes over time and how it relates to the development of respiratory disorders like asthma. In future, researchers like to investigate the connections between maternal physical activity and asthma, allergies, and other NCDs.
