#Flash: Healthy diet, exercise improve resistant hypertensio
A 4-month clinical trial investigated the effect of structured diet and exercise intervention in adults with resistant blood pressure. 90 patients were assigned to the diet and exercise intervention and 50 to the control group. The treatment group had a greater reduction in clinic systolic BP and diastolic BP as well as 24-hour ambulatory systolic BP. The program also improved their baroreflex sensitivity, heart rate variability, and flow-mediated dilation, compared to the control group. This is an important new, evidence-based intervention for resistant hypertension and should now be something physicians should routinely offer to patients.
