#Flash: India’s 1st Whipple Surgery on Pregnant Woman
Doctors at Fortis Hospital, New Delhi performed a life saving Whipple surgery, a first in India, on a six-month pregnant Fahima from Afghanistan. Fahima was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, when she was five and a half months pregnant and so could also not undergo chemotherapy. Considering the cancerous cells in the pancreas and the uterus were so close to one another, this complicated surgery was accomplished with excellent precision without moving the baby. The postoperative tests showed complete tumour removal and a healthy baby.
