Health Minister J P Nadda has pointed out that the number of cesarean deliveries or C-Section surgeries has increased in the country which has become a problem. Private institutes have seen a surge in the number of C-Section surgeries for which there could be a number of reasons, namely personal preference, risk factor and time constraint. But the minister has stated that the government has been making efforts to reduce the number through the process of counselling.

The minister said as per the information received from the Central Government Health Services-empanelled private hospitals, a total of 17,450 C-Section surgeries have been conducted out of 31,296 deliveries, which is about 55.75%.
