Earlier this year, the Department of Pharmaceuticals had capped the maximum prices of stents at drastically lower levels than the original price set by the companies. As a result, many companies had started to withdraw or decrease the production/ import of stents leading to their shortage. The government, in order to check on this issue, had asked the companies to continue the production and import of the stents at the level as it was before, at the price set by the government until the next orders were issued by them. In the view of many companies starting to request to withdraw their stents from the market, the government has now prevented the companies from requesting permission to discontinue their products until December. This comes after many companies like Abbott, Boston Scientific etc had put forth requests to withdraw their products.
