The Academy of Family Physicians of India has urged the government to recognise primary healthcare as a “specialty”, saying their experts, which includes general practitioners, community pharmacists, opticians and dentists, are the first point of contact for healthcare for most people. This would be a major step towards achieving the goal of mitigating the burden of diseases at an advanced state. Even though primary healthcare is not yet recognised by the MCI as a specialty, it has advocated for a diploma course in family medicine. But it still does not provide a formalised system of practice and career for physicians...
