HIV-infected mother can breastfeed baby without transmitting
A PROMISE (Promoting Maternal and Infant Survival) study across India and South Africa has shown how a three-drug regimen has effectively cut the risk of HIV transmission from positive mothers to their babies.

Pune’s B J Medical College was the sole trial site that was part of the ambitious PROMISE study, which showed babies being breastfed by HIV positive mothers were not infected with the virus. “The study has shown that we can now assure the HIV infected mother that she can breastfeed her own baby without transmitting the virus.
