Healthcare Technology Assessment (HTA) studies in India.
While healthcare insurance sector (third party payer) is growing, we do not have a systematic approach to conduct HTA in India. Most of the time, the payers/providers in India borrow/adopt HTAs for any new drug, regimen, or therapeutic approach conducted in Europe or USA, which may be applicable in India. But since Indian context of healthcare (diet, lifestyle, care - family + society + culture) is very different, the outcome and economics of a technology might be different. Many times, practitioners (providers - especially trained Doctors) do practice medicine considering Indian context and resulting outcomes and economics are unique and the best suited for India, but these outcomes and economics are hardly documented or shared. I will call upon every practitioner in India to document the unique approaches and outcomes to build a robust HTAs for all healthcare technologies for Indian population. If needed, you can approach me (bdaggarwal at comcast dot net), to assist you in the documentation, review, and publishing of HTA studies.
