Hip and Knee Surgery: Fixed-Dose TXA Cuts Costs, Autologous
Pre- or intraoperative fixed doses of tranexamic acid (TXA) in patients undergoing unilateral hip or knee arthroplasty can significantly reduce potentially dangerous drops in postoperative hemoglobin and the need for autologous blood transfusions, a new study suggests.

The retrospective study also projected more than $700,000 in savings annually, according to lead investigator Michelle Kohute, PharmD, a clinical pharmacist at Jersey Shore University Medical Center, in Neptune, N.J., who presented the data at the 2016 annual meeting of the American College of Clinical Pharmacy ....
