IMA directs private doctors to register TB patients in NIKSH
The Indian Medical Association (IMA) has urged private doctors to notify and register every tuberculosis patient on NIKSHAY, a web-enabled application developed by the Health Ministry.

Dr R V Asokan, secretary general and chairman of IMA, said “Private doctors have a huge role to play in reporting TB cases and adhering to the standards for TB Care in India (STCI). Notification of every TB patient is the single most important intervention to meet the government's vision of 'End TB' in India by 2025."

Upon notification and enrollment of TB patients by Medical practitioners in NIKSHAY, TB patient gets access to free drugs, diagnostic tests as per SCTI, nutritional support and financial incentives through integrated direct beneficiary transfer.

The IMA is holding a series of TB programmes for medical professionals across the country to increase notifications in the private sector for enrollment in NIKSHAY database.

NIKSHAY is a joint initiative by Central TB Division of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and National Informatics Centre (NIC) that was launched in June 2012. NIKSHAY aims to create repository of all TB patients including Multi-Drug Resistant cases across the country and to use this database for monitoring and research purposes.
