In a notification dated 5th June 2017, MCI has made two important changes to the Minimum Qualifications for Teachers in Medical Institutions as follows -

- One year Senior Residency has been made mandatory to qualify for the post of an Assistant Professor in Broad Specialties

- Definition of a PG Teacher in Broad Specialties - Total teaching experience required remains 8 years, but the minimum teaching experience as Assistant Professor has been reduced from 5 years to 4 years with two research publication in indexed journals

- Definition of a PG Teacher in Super-specialties - Total teaching experience has been reduced from 8 years to 6 years while teaching experience as Assistant Professor has been reduced from 5 years to 2 years
