JP Nadda plans to make India black fever free this year
Union Health Minister JP Nadda plans to make India black fever free this year. Black fever, commonly referred to as Kala Azar, is the second most deadly parasitic disease after malaria and is is spread through sandflies.

Very recently, AIIMS made a medical breakthrough after isolating the parasite of kala-azar from goat blood. The team at AIIMS now intends to screen animals infected with the disease, apart from treating people suffering from it.

Approximately 5 lakh cases are reported worldwide, of which more than 23,000 cases are in India.
