Doctors at Narayana Hospital, Jaipur, successfully removed a 3-inch long screw from the intestine of a 1-year-old boy using the endoscopic technique, making the procedure less risky, less painful and affordable to the patient and his family.

The one-year-old boy Devesh, who had swallowed a 3-inch long screw while playing was taken to various hospitals in Deedwana and Jaipur where the doctors suggested that open surgery was the only option to take the screw out, which would have cost his family about Rs 50,000. However, doctors at Narayana Hospital decided to use the endoscopic technique wherein they successfully removed the screw that was stuck in the ileocecal valve in just 2 and half hours. The expenditure for the entire process cost the family only Rs3.5 thousand and Devesh was discharged within 2 hours...
