The Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Bill, 2017 which involves the government regulated the functioning of private hospitals and clinics, was tabled by Karnataka Government on June 16 this year.

The bill was introduced with a view to prevent exploitation of poor patients and provide good quality healthcare at a reasonable cost. The Bill faced a lot of protest not only by the private medical community in Karnataka but also both the houses of the legislature.
