Karnataka government sets up expert committee for price fixa
Karnataka government has constituted an expert committee for recommending uniform package rates, classification and standards of infrastructure in hospitals, and standard protocols for treatment.

The step has been taken after a year to the amendment made to Karnataka Private Medical Establishments (Amendment) Act (KPME) in the year 2017. Hospitals empanelled under Arogya Karnataka will also be covered with fixation of reasonable and uniform package rates for various medical procedures.

The uniform package rate committee is headed by the Principal Secretary, Department of Medical Education. The classification and standards of infrastructure committee are under the Health and Family Welfare Commissioner whereas the committee to fix standard protocols for treatment is headed by the director of Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI).

Amendments made to KPME Act in 2017 met severe criticism by state doctors where the amendment notified fixing uniform package rates for each class of treatments under health assurance schemes. Doctors stated the amendment made were 'low' and 'unreasonable' for current practices.
