Echinococcosis (Hydatid) disease has been known from the time of Hippocrates, who described this condition as "liver full of water". It has highest prevalence in developing countries; in India, highest cases were reported in Andhra Pradesh, Tamilnadu and Vidarbha than other parts of the country. Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for hydatid disease of the liver.
