Hemoglobin (Hb) levels have emerged as a useful tool for the prediction of outcomes in acute coronary syndromes (ACS). A higher predictive value could be expected among elderly patients, who are at higher hemorrhagic risk. They present a pre-specified subanalysis of the ELDERLY-2 trial according to Hb quartiles at admission. At a mean follow-up of 330.4±99.9 days, a significantly higher cardiovascular mortality was observed in patients with lower Hb. However, Hb levels did not emerge as an independent predictor of outcomes, after correction for the baseline risk profile.
