The Board of Governors in supersession of Medical Council of India (MCI BoG) has directed all the medical colleges to prepare for COVID 19 (coronavirus) testing facilities and in regard to the same, the authority has issued a set of guidelines for the institutes as per Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

The Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MOHFW) and the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had earlier ordered that all Government and Private Medical Colleges are required to have the capacity for COVID 19 Testing. The Indian Council of Medical Research has also designated 13 Medical institutions to be the Mentor institutions for facilitating the establishment of COVID-19 Testing facilities in the respective States.

With a number of hospitals, medical colleges and even government looking up to finding ways to augment their manpower capacity to fight the coronavirus battle, the question had arisen on how MBBS doctors can be utilized for the same. In this regard, the apex medical regulator, the Medical Council of India had earlier issued an advisory the all the states including their health secretaries, department of Medical educations, the health universities as well as the respective medical colleges.
