Medico-Legal Tip of the day- 3rd August 2017
Query- Can a Radiologist demand extra leave( more than his/her colleagues) with the plea that he/she is being exposed to radiation hazards? Is there any such provision in law and is the employer legally bound to grant such leave? In case the Radiologist is granted extra leave on this ground should not the Radiographer be also granted the same leave.

Answer- There is no provision of extra leaves with the plea that he/she is being exposed to radiation hazards. Guidelines issued by BARC ( Bhabah Atomic Research Centre) are followed . Radiation limits of all staff including doctors is monitored and they are routinely taken off from radiation zone once limit is reached. They are given other works. Guidelines can be seen below.
