Mx of C. Difficile Infection in Children & Adolescents with
The American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) has recently released clinical practice guideline for the prevention and treatment of Clostridium difficile infection (CDI) in children and adolescents with cancer and and pediatric hematopoietic stem-cell transplantation (HSCT) patients. The guideline has been published in the Journal of Clinical Oncology.

The recommendations are:-
• Probiotics not be used routinely for the prevention of CDI in children and adolescents with cancer and pediatric HSCT patients (Weak recommendation)

• Use either oral metronidazole or oral vancomycin for the treatment of nonsevere CDI in children and adolescents with cancer and pediatric HSCT patients (Strong recommendation)

• Use oral vancomycin for the treatment of severe CDI in children and adolescents with cancer and pediatric HSCT patients (Strong recommendation)

• Consider fidaxomicin for the treatment of recurrent CDI in children and adolescents with cancer and pediatric HSCT patients (Weak recommendation)

• Do not use fecal microbiota transplantation routinely for the treatment of CDI in children and adolescents with cancer and pediatric HSCT patients (Strong recommendation)

• Monoclonal antibodies not be used routinely for the treatment of CDI in children and adolescents with cancer and pediatric HSCT patients (Weak recommendation)

• Probiotics not be used routinely for the treatment of CDI in children and adolescents with cancer and pediatric HSCT patients (Weak recommendation)
