As per an order by the NPPA, prices of 39 drugs under scheduled formulations of Schedule-I under Drugs (Prices Control) Order, 2013 have been capped. These include drugs used in the treatment of cancer, hepatitis B, tuberculosis, measles and malaria
The order states the following important notes:
- All manufacturers of branded or generic or both versions of scheduled formulations must price the drugs not more than the ceiling price plus GST, if applicable
- Every retailer and dealer shall display price list decided by the manufacturer in the place of business so that it is easily accessible to any person
-When an existing manufacturer launches a new drug using the scheduled formulation with dosage or strength or both, he must apply for prior price approval of such new drug to the NPPA in Form I
- The manufacturers not complying with the ceiling price and other requirements shall be liable to deposit the overcharged amount along with interest thereon.
