Nobody permitted to make a mockery of medical, legal educati
The Supreme Court said it would not allow anyone to make a mockery of medical and legal education in the country and warned of stringent steps against those who play with its quality.

The apex court remarked that it may be a matter of making money for some but the court is only concerned with the quality of education. The bench said it has already dealt strongly with those who have played with the quality of education in the past.

A bench of Justices S A Bobde and Deepak Gupta made their observation when Senior advocate, on behalf of Medical Council of India (MCI) said that it was not being allowed to carry out an inspection in a medical college in Uttar Pradesh.

The Bench also said that it may bar colleges from taking admissions from next year when the Counsel reported severe deficiencies in certain medical govt. colleges.

The court has sought a reply from Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Jharkhand on the report filed by MCI within 4 weeks.

The apex court in June 2018 made an exception by allowing 8 government medical colleges in 3 states, barred by the Centre for certain deficiencies, to enroll 800 students in MBBS and BDS courses for the academic year 2018-19.

The SC had then asked MCI to carry out an inspection after 3 months of its verdict to verify if the State Govt had rectified the deficiencies pointed out by it.
