Spinal tuberculosis (TB) is one of the most common forms of extrapulmonary TB, accounting for approximately 50% cases of musculoskeletal TB. However, lumbosacral segment TB is rare and only accounts for 2%–4% cases of spinal TB. TB spondylitis of the lumbosacral region has rarely been documented in the literature. The treatment of lumbosacral segment TB is difficult, and each patient needs individual consideration. To date, there is a lack of consensus regarding the optimal therapeutic modality for treatment of lumbosacral segment TB. Hence, the purpose of this clinical study was to evaluate the clinical efficacy and feasibility of the anterolateral extraperitoneal approach for treating lumbosacral TB.
