The Punjab Civil Medical Services Association (PCMSA) has opposed the Punjab government's proposal to withdraw the non-practising allowance (NPA) given to government doctors stating that this move will lead to senior doctors leaving the service and the poor will be forced to at the mercy of private practitioners due to shortage of doctors.

The association believes that with this, not only routine clinical work but emergency services, as well as implementation of national programmes and administrative work, will also be jeopardized. They have called this move by the government as anti-doctor and anti-people move. NPA is being given not only in Punjab but in all states and by the Union government to its doctors...
