Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the 'Intensified Mission Indradhanush' or IMI with an intention to immunize to reach every child below the age of two years and pregnant women still uncovered under the routine immunization programme against every vaccine-preventable disease. The program aims to ensure 90% coverage for full immunization by December 2018 instead of 2020. This program is supported by 12 ministries and departments and would be monitored by the Cabinet Secretary at the national level. Under this program, a seven-day immunization drive will be conducted each month till January 2018 in 173 districts (52 in eight northeastern states and 121 in 16 other states) and 17 cities. The programme will cover low performing areas in the selected districts and cities.
