Painful skin rash on the face after a ‘chemsex’ party
The present case has been reported in the British Journal of Dermatology.

A 39‐year‐old man came to the emergency room with a rash that had appeared on his face 24 h after inhaling poppers. Poppers are vasodilators and smooth muscle relaxants used as recreational drugs to increase sexual pleasure.

‘Poppers dermatitis’ is characterized by the appearance of yellowish crusts on the midface after inhaling poppers. The colour is caused by the nitration of certain aromatic amino acids.

A comprehensive sexual and medical history should be obtained, due to the potential for associated complications such as sexually transmitted diseases or conditions derived from the systemic absorption of poppers (maculopathy, methaemoglobinaemia, renal failure).
