Many physiotherapists under the banner of the Indian Association of Physiotherapists (IAP) are demanding the formation of a central physiotherapy council – a demand pending for more than 50 years now. These demands also include:
- Establishing proper standards for the physiotherapy profession, practice and education
- Regularise the system of registration, recognition, standards and quality of education in physiotherapy
- Check unprofessional practices, quackery in physiotherapy by untrained professional
- Give physiotherapy its due professional status in the field of healthcare facility and health sciences
- The council should create better healthcare delivery services for the people of the country
Preventing ailments through physiotherapeutic systems, in urban as well as rural areas will be a boon for the national economy. Yet, the sector is orphaned and this, in turn, has resulted in many malpractices that need to be dealt with at the earliest.
