Pfizer, Dr Reddy's among 66 firms that fail govt test for NS

As per the National Drug Survey, 66 drug firms have failed the test for Not of Standard Quality (NSQ) drugs which include major drug firms like Zydus Healthcare, Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, Cipla, Alembic and Pfizer. Companies that have been included in the list manufacture at least five drugs that have failed the government’s test. The report suggests that 25 drugs of Pfizer, 9 each of Alembic and Dr Reddy’s Laboratories, 7 drugs of Cipla and 6 samples of Zydus Healthcare have failed the test.
The survey reported that 3.16% of the drug samples taken from retail outlets were not of standard quality. while the global standard is 2%. The government has started risk-based assessment in order to keep a constant check on companies and their manufacturing units in an attempt to improve manufacturing practices while drug regulator plans to conduct assessment, in line with the USFDA and EU regulators
