Pneumonia is the leading cause of death in children worldwide according to the World Health Organization. Infants and children having pneumonia may initially be seen with clinical symptoms and signs of fever, cough, and tachypnea. Although tachypnea is thought to be the best clinical predictor of pneumonia, other clinical examination findings, including those by auscultation, have proven to be unreliable.Chest radiography is considered the test of choice for diagnosing pneumonia in children. Author's objective was to determine the accuracy of clinician-performed point-of-care ultrasonography for the diagnosis of pneumonia in children and young adults.
