Proposed Bill on Euthanasia - Doctors' comments invited
Background: In 2011, Supreme Court passed a landmark judgment in the Aruna Shanbaug case allowing withdrawal of life support to Aruna who had been in a vegetative state for 42 years. Last week, the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has proposed a draft bill titled 'Terminally Ill Patients (protection of patients and medical practitioners) Bill' on passive euthanasia that gives terminally ill patients the right to "withhold or withdraw medical treatment to herself or himself" and "allow nature to take its own course".
