Ramping Up Of COVID Vaccination Will Bring More Focus To TB

Screening, diagnosing and treating tuberculosis taking a backseat with COVID-19 and to meet the target of making India TB-free by 2025, which is ahead of global target, the Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Mansukh Mandaviya urged all the states to ramp up COVID vaccination, as it will help in bringing more focus to TB in addition to safeguarding the population from severe Covid-19.

Mandaviya who recently took charge as Stop TB Partnership Board chairman urged all State health ministers and principal secretaries, additional chief secretaries of States and UTs to review the progress made in the country's fight against Tuberculosis (TB) said, "Coordinated and collaborative efforts will strongly contribute to achievement of shared goals faster."

He suggested that regular interaction and best practices of States/UTs can be implemented all across the country. This will strongly contribute to focused and effective implementation of common policies and to achieve these goals collectively. Highlighting the importance of COVID vaccination, Mandaviya said, "Vaccination will help in bringing more focus to TB in addition to safeguarding the population from severe Covid-19." Further stressed that vaccinating teachers and organising community drives to vaccinate people who directly interact with others on a day-to-day basis.

The State Health Ministers were given assurance that the Centre remains in constant touch with the vaccine manufacturers so that any possible bottleneck is resolved and vaccine production is ramped up. The States/UTs present at the event shared their progress and impact of their work in the past few years in addition to assuring support to the movement for the elimination of TB by 2025.
