Rs 2.9 lakh root canal for AP Minister!
The Andhra Pradesh finance minister Yanamala Ramakrishnudu’s dental treatment in Singapore has cost the taxpayer Rs 2.9 lakh. The Andhra Pradesh government on Thursday issued a GO reimbursing a medical claim of Rs 2.9 lakh to the minister for root canal treatment he got done on April 12, 2018, at Azure Dental Clinic in Singapore.
In July 2018, PS to minister for finance has sent a letter to general administration department (GAD) which asked CEO of DR NTR Vaidyaseva Trust to scrutinise the bills. After scrutiny of the bills, the trust CEO okayed it. A cheque is to be issued to minister for the same. GAD said that the order does not require the concurrence of the finance department.
Reacting to the AP minister going abroad for root canal treatment, a senior dental doctor in Hyderabad told TOI, “There are good hospitals and doctors available for root canal treatment and capping in India. Even if we use imported and best quality crowns, the process would cost a maximum of Rs 20,000 for treatment. The cost would be more in Singapore.”
The question that arises is when great hospitals and doctors are available in India for the treatment; why should a person visit other country and spend a huge amount?
