An incredible medical breakthrough cementing cure for Cervical cancer, caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV) has been reported by Mexican scientists.

Mexican scientist Eva Ramón Gallegos, along with her research team from National Polytechnic Institute (IPN) have successfully treated Mexican patients in Mexico exhibiting symptoms of infection by HPV.

Ramón Gallegos had been extensively researching on Photodynamic therapy for two decades which relies on applying drug named Delta aminolevulinic acid to the cervix of the uterus, transforming into Protoporphyrin IX after 4 hours. This fluorescent chemical substance accumulates in damaged cells, allowing only the structures impregnated with the chemical to be eliminated with a special laser beam.

The clinical phase conducted on 420 patients in Mexico saw a success rate of 85% with patients infected by HPV, with lesions or suffering both in the first part of the investigation.

On doubling the concentration of Delta aminolevulinic acid, 100% elimination of HPV was reported among patients.

The non-invasive therapy shows no side-effect on healthy cells; only eliminating damaged cells by a laser beam.

Cervical cancer remains a major death causing disease in females, accounting for 7.5% of female mortality in 2018.
